The Latest on RAW ALMONDS

Happy Hot August Night Everyone!

I have been on a search for non irradiated, non pasteurized, or fumigated RAW almond for several months now and I finally found a place to get them!

First of all I hope you are aware of what has been happening to our almonds.

Pasteurization and Irradiation, sometimes called Cold pasteurization is now mandatory to cover up for sloppy farming practices. Instead of cleaning up the farms they sterilize the food so it has little nutritional value and may even have harmful side effects.

For more information about irradiation, please refer to the following site.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2001/07/11/irradiation-part-one.aspx

As if this isn't enough some almond producers are using propylene oxide because it has been approved by the EPA.

this is what I gleaned from wiki

Propylene oxide is a highly toxic flammable chemical compound. It was once used as a racing fuel, but that usage is now prohibited under the U.S.National Hot Rod Association rules for safety reasons. It is also used in thermobaric weapons. It is an an epoxide.

then it goes on to state

Fumigant

The United States Food & Drug Administration has approved its use to pasteurize raw almonds beginning on September 1, 2007 in response to several incidences of contamination by salmonella in commercial orchards.

(2 isolated cases, I looked it up)

And finishes with

Safety

Propylene oxide is a probable human carcinogen.

(so if it's human carcinogen, what are we doing using it on food?)

For more information please go to http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_5231.cfm

So there we have it!

All almonds in the USA are now treated in a way to kill all nutrients or to kill us!

Some of you may be asking "why buy raw almonds?"

Raw almonds, the heartbeat of all nuts, literally, have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease, a rich source of calcium, magnesium, vitamin E, protein, fiber and antioxidants to name a few. Now, these once amazing and life enhancing health benefits have become devastatingly reduced if not completely eliminated in the pasteurization process.

Remember the "raw" almonds you think you are buying at Costco and other stores are not raw and have not been raw since 2007. the worst part is they are not required to label them as pasteurized irradiated or anything else but can still call them raw.

So I finally made a connection with a place we can legally buy TRUELY RAW ALMONDS up to 100 pounds per person.

(Don't you love loopholes!)

The harvest is sometime in October but I need to have orders in by mid September.

I have to order 1,100 pounds to get the price we want and shipping at a reasonable price. so for a total (shipping included) of $3.50 a pound!

(Costco's dead Almonds are $3.26 a pound)

In my search for Truly Raw Almonds I couldn't find anything under $6 a pound ranging all the way up to $12.50, so this is a real deal! you look and see if you can find anything better!

This order is only once a year, so stock up!

We can feature a class in "sprouting" almonds and how to use them raw for those of you who are new to the raw food thing. Maybe it can be a food theme for our next meeting, (we can have a funeral for my costco dead almonds as these will not be in yet!) I even have recipes for savory and sweet almonds for snacks!

Let me know if you are interested. I am not collecting money till I get my official order form. This was just the preliminary, what's coming up, but do send me your order cause when it comes we have to move fast! This is a seasonal crop and when they are gone we have to wait till next year.

Again for Truly RAW Almonds from a reputable farm prices are $3.50 a pound, and 100 pound limit per person, we have to make the minimum order of 1100 pounds.

Bon Appetite!

More on Chia!

For those of you who are on the chia band wagon here is more good news about soaking chia!
my friend Elaine Cobb in Enterprise UT just alerted me this! WOW! (Sally F.--Beaverton Stake)

This is from NSRI (Nutritional Science Research Institute)

Important Discovery!
Germinating/Soaking
Omega 3 Chia seeds
NSRI (Nutritional Science Research Institute) made an
important discovery when germinating the
Omega 3 Chia seeds for a minimum of 12-24 hours.
The ORAC value and the antioxidant level nearly tripled
to 220 points! Normally the ORAC value of the chia seed
is 80 (vs. blueberries at 70) but when the seeds are
soaked the nutritional values increased substantially.
Here’s what to do:
A one quart glass jar and lid
1.5 T or 1 scoop of chia seeds for every ½ cup of
water
Shake the container until the seeds are suspended and
liquid begins to thicken.
Soak the seeds at room temp in water for a
minimum of 12 – 24 hours .
After the 12-24 hour period, consume
the germinated/soaked seed.
Make larger quantities then refrigerate
so you’ll have germinated seeds for
cooking etc.
Use the germinated seeds in smoothies
oatmeal, Yogurt, soup, bread, cakes or
cookie mix.
A tip from Sally, substituting chia gel by volume for eggs in cupcakes gives you a dense, fudgy (of course we made chocolate) moist delicious cupcake. (be aware that it will not rise as high s it will lack the leavening power of eggs ) Lori has done it with brownies and says they were really good. my kids preferred them to my regular "egg" cupcake. (i did use coconut oil as well and it makes everything great!)

By the way, sure enough they also discovered the dark chia has more antioxidants than the white! good thing cause it costs less!
now go soak some chia!
(anyone wanting to order the order is 1/2 full, 20 more bags and we send for it! $143.00 for 50# the beauty of wholesale!)

Interested in Essential Oils or Infection Fighters?

From: Dee Harris [PrepareNow] Google Group List
(Contact Rebecca W. with questions!)

To those interested in the herb meeting and those who want to place an
order for the Infection Fighter, Grapefruit Seed Extract and Essential
Oil Blend.

We need all checks and order forms to us by May 15th (Friday). I will
be placing orders for products after this date. If we don't have
enough orders on the Essential Oil Blend, we may need to postpone this
until the next order. The other option would be to raise the price due
to lower quantity discount.

Current quantities ordered:

Infection Fighter - 22
Essential Oils Blend - 8 We need 28 orders to keep the price

The Herb Meeting is intended to discuss any questions regarding the
products above and to give a list of my top ten pick of herbs and
why.

The meeting will be this Tuesday, May 12th at 7:30 at my house. The
address is: -------------------------. I'm not sure about the
interest in this group. I'm expecting a much smaller group than what
attends the Prepare Now group at Sally's.

I would like to get an idea of how many will be attending. Please e-
mail a response to harris5ive@aol.com. We don't have the amount of
seating that Sally provides but will do our best to include all who
are interested.

Best regards,
Dee Harris

Group Order: Organic Pasta, Tomatoes & Agave

GROUP ORDER COORDINATOR: Cathy Shauklas (Meridian Park Ward)

ORDER DEADLINE: March 23, 2009 (Money/checks made out to "Cathy Shauklas")

Cathy: I have become aware of an opportunity to order a very high quality organic whole wheat pasta from Tuscany, Italy in many shapes in bulk. A LDS woman, Colleen, in Utah will actually place our order since she has a wholesale account with the manufacturer in Italy but the order will be shipped to my home, Cathy, in Tualatin. There is also the option to order gluten-free pasta and agave syrup and canned tomatoes. If we place a large bulk order (approx.400 cases) then the shipping is FREE. I think the requirement is actually by weight but 400 cases usually meets that weight requirement. The prices listed are only guaranteed through March so I would need to receive everyone’s order including money by Monday, March 23, 2009 in order to mail a check to Colleen in Utah. She only places a large bulk order once a year.

It is the best organic whole-grain pasta and organic tomatoes in the world. Typical pricing for this pasta is fairly expensive. We will order sufficient quantities with this purchase to obtain exceptional pricing (see order form). This pasta is made using organic whole grain and the best known artisan practices. It is recognized as one of Italy’s finest whole-grain pastas and is generally sold as an expensive gourmet item. It is made affordable through bulk purchase.

The whole, peeled canned tomatoes come packed in tomato puree with basil, rather than water. Both are excellent food storage items as well as nutritious and delicious.

The agave is XAgave brand, considered to be the finest organic agave nectar on the market today. It retails for more than double the price offered in this bulk order. Agave is a low calorie and low glycemic index sweetener, considered by many to have no rival.

*If you have questions or problems opening up the order form please call Rebecca Webb or email me at rebeccaja.webb@gmail.com
